Removals

Man and van for the jobs that do not need a lorry

A van and a driver, with a second person when the items need it, for small moves, single rooms, collections and deliveries in and around East London.

What it is

Not every move needs a removals crew. A room in a shared house, a studio flat, a sofa bought online, the contents of a small storage unit, a load of boxes to a family member across London: these need a van, someone who knows how to load it, and a price that reflects the fact it is a couple of hours' work rather than a day.

Our man and van service is that. You tell us what is moving, where from and to, and what the access is like. We tell you whether one person will manage it or whether the items call for two, and quote accordingly. The driver arrives with blankets and straps, loads properly so nothing rubs or shifts, and helps carry at both ends.

It suits people who have packed themselves and just need the transport and a pair of hands, and it suits anyone moving a small amount over a short distance where a full removals service would be paying for capacity you do not need. It is also what we send for most single-item collections and deliveries.

Where a job turns out to be bigger than a van and one person can safely do, we will say so before you book rather than turning up under-resourced. The van size estimator on the quote page is the quickest way to check.

What affects the price

No figures until we know the job. These are the things that move a man and van quote up or down, and why.

  • Timethe main measure

Man and van work is largely priced on how long the job takes, from arrival to finish. Loading, driving and unloading all count, so good access and being ready when the van arrives keep the cost down.

  • One person or twoweight and stairs

One driver can move boxes and light furniture. Sofas, wardrobes, appliances and anything going up or down stairs need two people, which we will tell you when you describe the items.

  • Van sizeSWB or LWB

A short-wheelbase van costs less to run than a long-wheelbase high-roof, so we send the smallest vehicle that fits the load with a margin.

  • Distance and parkingLondon driving

Crossing London takes time, and a van that has to park a street away adds carrying time at each end. Both are reflected honestly in the quote.

  • Waitingbe ready

If the van arrives and packing is unfinished, the clock is running. We allow a reasonable margin and state what happens beyond it.

How our pricing works, in full

What we need from you

The information that turns an enquiry into an accurate quote. Have it ready and the quote comes back faster and closer to the final price.

  • Both postcodes and the floor at each end
  • A list of items or the estimator total
  • Whether anything is heavy or needs two people
  • Where the van can stop at each address
  • Your preferred date and a time window
  • Whether you need help carrying, or transport only

How it works

  1. Send a quick enquiry

Postcodes, what is moving and when. Most man and van quotes need nothing more.

  2. We confirm the van and crew

One or two people, SWB or LWB, with the price and the time allowance in writing.

  3. Collection

The driver loads with blankets and straps and helps carry from your door.

  4. Delivery

Unloaded and carried in at the other end. Job finished when you say it is.

Small job, small vehicle, small price. That is the whole point.

We send the smallest van that fits and the number of people the items actually need, and we tell you before you book if it is more than a man and van job.

Questions people ask

Is it cheaper than a removals service?

For small loads with easy access, usually yes, because you are paying for a van and one or two people for a few hours rather than a crew for a day. Above a certain volume or with difficult access it stops being the cheaper option and we will tell you.

Do I have to help carry?

No. If you would rather not lift anything, say so and we will send two people. If you are happy to help with boxes it can shorten the job.

Can you collect something from a shop or a seller and bring it to me?

Yes. Give us the collection address, a contact there and a description of the item. We will confirm the van size and whether one or two people are needed.

What if it does not all fit in the van?

That is what the estimator and our questions are for. Describe the load accurately and we will send the right van. If you add items on the day that were not described, we will do what we safely can and tell you if a second trip is needed.

Do you do same-day man and van?

Sometimes, depending on where the vans are. Send an enquiry with the earliest time you could be ready and we will tell you honestly what we can do.

Ready to quote your man and van?

Send a quick enquiry or the detailed brief. Either way you get a written quote, not a phone estimate.
