Removals
Home removals with a fair price agreed before the van arrives
A full house move: your furniture, boxes and appliances loaded, protected, driven and set down in the rooms you tell us, anywhere in the UK.
What it is
A home removal is the most involved thing we do. It is not one job but a series of them: understanding what you own, working out how it fits into a vehicle, protecting it on the way out of one property and on the way into another, and doing all of that on a date that is usually fixed by a solicitor or a landlord rather than by you.
We start by asking you to describe the move properly, either through the detailed brief on our quote page or by talking it through with us. Room count, the big items, how many boxes you expect, whether there is a lift or a long carry at either end, and where the van can legally stop. From that we quote a price and put it in writing, so the number you agree is the number you pay unless the job on the day is materially different from what was described.
On the day the crew arrives with blankets, straps, floor protection and the tools to take apart anything that will not fit through a doorway. Sofas are wrapped, mattresses bagged, drawers taped, and the load is built in the van so that nothing bears weight it cannot take. At the other end we place furniture in the rooms you point to, reassemble what we dismantled, and take our blankets and empty materials away.
We move people locally around Ilford, Redbridge and East London, across Greater London, and to and from every part of England, Scotland and Wales. Long-distance moves are planned the same way, with the same crew loading and unloading so nobody has to explain the fragile box twice.
What affects the price
No figures until we know the job. These are the things that move a home removals quote up or down, and why.
- Volumethe biggest factor
Everything you own has a cubic footage, and that decides the size of vehicle and the number of crew. A three-bedroom house with a loft full of boxes is a bigger job than a three-bedroom house that has already been decluttered. The van size estimator on our quote page shows how this adds up.
- Access at both endsfloors, lifts, carry distance
A ground-floor house with a driveway loads in a fraction of the time of a third-floor flat with no lift and a shared entrance. We ask about stairs, lift size, the distance from the door to where the van can stop, and whether a parking suspension or permit is needed.
- Distancemileage and hours
Local moves are priced on the time the job takes. Longer moves add fuel, driving hours and sometimes an overnight for the crew, all of which we set out separately so you can see how the total is built.
- Dismantling and reassemblybeds, wardrobes, desks
Flat-pack wardrobes, bed frames and large dining tables often have to come apart to move. Tell us in advance and we allow time for it; discovering it on the day is what turns a quote into an argument.
- Timingday of week, end of month
Fridays and the last few days of a month are the busiest in the removals trade because that is when completions cluster. Mid-week and mid-month dates give us more flexibility on vehicles and crew.
- Packingwho does it
Whether you pack yourself or ask us to do some or all of it changes the labour on the day. Kitchens and books take longest; wardrobes and bedding take least.
What we need from you
The information that turns an enquiry into an accurate quote. Have it ready and the quote comes back faster and closer to the final price.
- Both full postcodes and the type of property at each end
- Floor level, lift availability and parking at each address
- Room count and a list of the large or awkward items
- Approximate number of boxes, or use the estimator
- Anything that needs dismantling, and anything fragile or valuable
- Your completion or key-release time and how flexible the date is
How it works
Tell us about the move
Send the detailed brief or a quick enquiry. For larger homes we may ask to talk it through or arrange a survey before quoting.
Receive a written quote
One document listing the vehicle, crew, what is included and any extras such as packing or dismantling.
Confirm the date
Once you accept, we confirm the vehicle and crew for your date and tell you the arrival window.
Loading day
The crew protects floors and doorways, wraps furniture, dismantles what needs it and loads in a planned order.
Delivery and set-down
At the new address we unload room by room, reassemble furniture and place items where you want them.
Sign-off
We walk the property with you before leaving so anything that needs moving again is done there and then.
A house move is the same job whether it is priced honestly or not. We price it honestly.
What you describe is what we quote. What we quote is what you pay, unless what we find on the day is materially different, and then the difference is shown line by line.
Questions people ask
Do I need to empty drawers and wardrobes?
Empty drawers of anything heavy, breakable or liquid; light clothing can usually stay in. Hanging clothes go into wardrobe boxes so they arrive on the hanger. We will tell you in the quote exactly what we expect to be packed and what we will handle.
What happens if my completion is delayed on the day?
Chain delays are common. Tell us as soon as you know and we will keep the load on the vehicle and wait where we can. Waiting time beyond the allowance in your quote is charged at the rate stated in it, so there are no surprises.
Can you move me out of London to another part of the UK?
Yes. Nationwide moves are planned with the same crew loading and unloading. For long distances we will tell you whether delivery is same-day or the following morning before you book.
Will you disconnect my washing machine or cooker?
We will disconnect and reconnect a washing machine where the valves are accessible and in good condition. Gas appliances must be disconnected by a Gas Safe registered engineer before we arrive; we will not touch a gas connection.
Are my belongings insured while they are on the van?
The level of cover that applies to your move is stated in your written quote so you can check it before you accept. If you have individual items of high value, tell us in advance so we can confirm they are covered or advise you to arrange your own cover.
How far in advance should I book?
As soon as you have a likely date. Fridays and month-ends fill fastest. We can often help at short notice, but the best vehicle and crew options come from a couple of weeks' notice.
